A Reminder Concerning the Ongoing Presidential Guidance on Funerals

KIU, Main Campus câ¬â€œ Last week, on 20th April 2020, during a national address on the state of COVID-19 in Uganda, President Yoweri Museveni announced more restrictions on funerals. According to the President, if anyone dies of COVID-19, they will be buried by health workers and not the family.

câ¬Å“When someone dies of COVID-19, doncâ¬â„ct try to bring the body back. Let the body be buried where the person died,c⬝ urged the President.

Museveni was of the view that if the virus lasts a long time on mere surfaces such as wood and plastic, then it would last even longer in bodies containing tissues and fluids. Therefore, this measure is to ensure that the virus does not travel from the neighbouring countries into Uganda.

câ¬Å“Fortunately, wecâ¬â„cve not yet registered any deaths here in Uganda,c⬝ said the President, câ¬Å“but if someone was to die, it would be the health workers to bury them and not the relatives.c⬝

The KIU community is advised to heed these directives until the restrictions are lifted.
