A Tapestry of Cultures Unfolds at KIU Western Campus

KIU Western Campus – Colour, creativity, tradition and cultural pride filled Kampala International University, Western Campus (KIU-WC) as students from diverse cultural backgrounds gathered for Cultural Fest 2026, a two-day celebration held under the theme “Bridging Cultures, Shaping the Future.”

Organised by the 12th Guild Union, the Fest ran from Friday, September 25th to Saturday, September 26th, 2026, weaving together cultural associations in a lively programme of music, poetry, traditional performances, attire, and dance.

The competition carried familiar echoes of last year. Baganda Nkobazambogo Students Association once again rose to the occasion, retaining the overall title, while Bakonzo Students Association held firmly to second place. Abasoga Nseete Students Association followed in third, with the order of performance continuing through Acholi, Banyankore Bakiga, Bagwere Namadu, Karamoja, Teso Students Development, and West Nile Students Associations.

International voices also found their place on the stage. South Sudan Students Association led the way, followed by Nigeria Students Association and Sudan Students Association, each adding their unique rhythm to the celebration.

The Fest opened with a Cultural Parade and Marching, a spectacle of colour and identity that set the tone for the competitions. The KIU Anthem was the first item, uniting voices before the programme unfolded into Poems and Traditional Mimes, where creativity and heritage intertwined.

Day two shifted the spotlight to Cultural Wear Showcasing and Traditional Dance, as associations expressed their identities through attire, choreography, and movement, turning the stage into a living canvas of tradition.

In her remarks, Guild Minister of Culture, Religion and Entertainment, Hon. Brivian Namaganda praised the extraordinary mobilisation of cultural leaders and applauded participants for embracing their identities.

“The commitment shown by our cultural leaders has been remarkable. To every participant, thank you for proudly embracing who you are and giving your culture a place to be seen, heard, and celebrated,” she said.

Representing the Chief Guest, Hon. Idd Basajja, Member of Parliament for Bushenyi‑Ishaka Municipality, Dr. Shamim Basajja, Resident Director and Deputy Director of Quality Assurance and Monitoring, commended the collective effort behind the Fest.

“This celebration has been made possible through the combined efforts of the University Administration, Guild Union, cultural association leaders, and the entire University fraternity. We appreciate everyone who played a part in making it a success,” she noted.

Closing the celebration, Guild President, H.E. Anthony Tuhumwire expressed gratitude to the organising committee and the Guild Union.

“I commend the organising committee and the entire Guild Union for the great work that has gone into making this Fest a success. Your commitment has given our students a platform to celebrate their cultures and share their talents,” he said.

From the opening parade to the final dance performances, Cultural Fest 2026 provided students with a vibrant platform to showcase their identities, honour traditions, and celebrate the diversity that defines KIU-WC.
