KIU, Main Campus - China is expending great efforts in the
global scramble to develop a vaccine for the new Coronavirus pandemic that
began in its central city of Wuhan. According to the World Health Organization
(WHO), researchers are currently conducting five separate clinical trials on
humans, or half of all such trials globally.
In May, at the World Health Assembly - the WHOcâ¬âcs governing
body, President Xi Jinping vowed that the vaccines China develops will become
a câ¬Åglobal public goodc⬠once they are ready for use, and it will register as
Chinacâ¬âcs contribution to ensuring vaccine accessibility and affordability in
developing countries.
Chinacâ¬âcs Science and Technology Minister, Wang Zhigang,
expressed that developing a vaccine was still the fundamental strategy in their
effort to overcome the Coronavirus, despite how difficult vaccine development
was.
câ¬ÅThe rigour of vaccine development has been compared by some scientists to a dance involving precise steps and rehearsals,c⬠Wang said.
