Kampala International University's Main Campus recently welcomed its newest batch of freshmen of the April intake with a warm orientation ceremony held on Friday, May 4, 2025. The event at the Main Hall was a perfect opportunity for the university's top officials to share valuable advice and insights with the students.
Prof. Muhammed Ngoma, the Vice Chancellor, emphasized the importance of staying focused on academic goals and avoiding distractions. "You've made the right choice by joining KIU, now it is up to you to make it count," he encouraged. He also urged students to use their mobile phones wisely and limit screen time, noting that excessive phone use can hinder academic success.
Dr. Jacob Eneji Ashibi, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic Affairs, stressed the need for discipline and adherence to university policies. He advised students to surround themselves with positive influences, saying, "The company you keep can shape your future. Choose friends who will help you grow."
Ms. Christine Ainebyoona, the Deputy University Secretary and Campus Administrator at the Main Campus, highlighted the importance of maintaining a good image, developing leadership skills, and embracing technology. She encouraged students to register for the student portal, utilise social media effectively, and access course materials online.
Ms. Shakiro Iluku, the Dean of Student Affairs, extended a warm welcome to the freshmen and introduced them to the support services available at the university. She assured students that her department was available to address any queries, including visa-related issues.
Ms. Mary Baineamasanyu, the Acting Director of Admissions, also applauded the freshmen for choosing KIU and asked them to encourage their friends to apply for admission for the ongoing April and August intake.
"Admissions are still ongoing for the April and August intakes, so encourage your friends to apply. Most importantly, please keep the original copy of your admission letter safe and secure. Avoid using it as collateral for student loans or any other purpose," she advised.
Ms. Irene Komuhendo, Acting Deputy Director of Marketing, advised freshmen to maximize their time at the university, strive for excellence, and consider furthering their education at the university with postgraduate courses after graduation.
New students gained valuable insights from various departments. The Finance department advised freshmen to pay tuition fees promptly to avoid late charges, specifying payment options through recommended banks such as Centenary Bank, UBA, and Equity Bank. For Ugandan students, payments should be made in Uganda Shillings, while international students should pay in US Dollars. Meanwhile, the Library department provided guidelines on accessing library resources, including obtaining library cards and adhering to library conduct policies.
With valuable insights from university officials and departments, the freshmen felt prepared to start their academic journey at KIU, armed with the knowledge and motivation to thrive.
