On Tuesday, 22nd April, 2025, a student-led Maraga Law Firm held final moot competitions at Kampala International University, Main Campus, Idd Basajjabalaba Memorial Library where students showcased their litigation and advocacy skills.

The competition was under the theme "Jus Dicere" translating to “Speak the Law” was presided over by the esteemed Worship Gabriel Moses Angualia, Registrar, Inspectorate of Courts of Kampala, who brought his wealth of experience to the judging panel.

The competition aimed to promote legal excellence, critical thinking, knowledge of the law (Juris Practicum) and effective communication among law students, with Maraga Law Firm providing a platform for students to showcase their skills.

Zeroing down to a defilement case under criminal law, the students who in the past moot competitions focused on human rights cases got hands-on experience in the trial and litigation of criminal cases.

Dr. Olawunimi Opeyemi Obisesan, Head of the School of Law, commended the presiding judge Worship Angualia for investing time in mentoring future lawyers and encouraged others to participate in similar initiatives, highlighting their benefits for students.

The teams were expected to present oral arguments on a complex legal case, with Worship Angualia evaluating their performance based on legal knowledge, argumentation, and courtroom demeanor.

He also further complimented the students for the job well done and continued to encourage them to read more about the law so as to have enough defenses.

"I am impressed by the level of preparation and passion displayed by these students. It's heartening to see the next generation of lawyers embracing the art of advocacy," said Worship Angualia.

Ecstatic about the moot competition and lessons learned, Patrick Kintu, Senior Partner at Maraga Law Firm said, "I am proud to be part of a firm that invests in the future of our legal profession. This competition not only benefits the students but also contributes to the growth of our legal community".

"I have been able to advance my practical skills in regards to the law and also groom my leadership skills effectively as we prepare for the bar course,” he added.

In unison, Joseph Tamale, a first-year law student, confessed that the moot competition helped him develop skills in case analysis, applying legal principles to facts, and evaluating evidence.

"This competition has also been a game-changer for me. I've learned so much about legal procedure and courtroom etiquette. I'm grateful to Maraga Law Firm for providing this platform," he narrated.

The competition was organized to prepare the students for the upcoming external moots like Federation Internationale des Avocatesses, or International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) Moot, the Center for Health, Human Rights and Development (CEHURD) and others.
