Four members of Kampala International University's woodball team, the KIU Spartans, alongside other team Uganda colleagues were flagged off for Malaysia on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, ahead of the 2026 Woodball World Cup, scheduled for July 24-30 in Perlis Malaysia.

The tournament, which will be the 10th edition of the Woodball World Cup Championship, is expected to bring together some of the world's top woodball players to compete for international glory.

The four KIU Spartans named to Uganda's final 16-player squad are Shakira Nagudi, Sanyu Mirembe, Bridge Byamukama and Brian Gwaaka.

Their selection marks another significant milestone for KIU's growing woodball programme, with the quartet set to compete on the international stage after helping establish the Spartans as a competitive force in Uganda.

As the Ugandan team heads into the competition, the KIU quartet will be hoping to make a strong impression against some of the world's best players and contribute to Uganda's pursuit of success at the championship.

For the KIU Spartans, the World Cup appearance is another chapter in the team's growing journey and an opportunity to showcase the talent emerging from the university's woodball programme on the international stage.
