KIU Strengthens Erasmus+ Partnership with Turkish University Through Staff Mobility Exchange

KIU, Main Campus - Kampala International University continues to advance its internationalization agenda through an Erasmus+ staff mobility visit to Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU) in Samsun, Türkiye, from 20th to 25th September 2026.

The visit involves Dr. Ramadhan Malinga, Head of the Department of Computer Science, and Mrs. Gloria Mahoro Walyemera, Manager of Grants and Partnerships and Assistant Lecturer, who are participating in academic and professional engagements aimed at strengthening institutional cooperation, knowledge exchange and research collaboration.

The mobility builds on the KIU–OMU Erasmus+ partnership established in 2024 and follows the official visit of KIU Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Muhammed Ngoma, to OMU in July 2026, during which discussions focused on expanding academic cooperation, research partnerships, and staff and student mobility.

Commenting on the exchange, Dr. Mundu Mustafa, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Finance and Administration, highlighted the progress made since the commencement of the partnership.

"Our collaboration with Ondokuz Mayıs University commenced in 2024 under the Erasmus+ mobility framework, with the objective of expanding international opportunities for our staff and students. Since then, we have made significant progress in strengthening institutional relations and translating the partnership into practical academic engagements. The Vice-Chancellor's visit in July 2026 further consolidated this relationship, while the ongoing mobility of Dr. Malinga and Mrs. Mahoro demonstrates our commitment to sustaining and expanding the programme," Dr. Mundu noted.

He emphasised that international mobility should generate lasting institutional benefits beyond individual participation.

"For KIU, international mobility goes beyond the exchange of staff and students. It provides a platform for knowledge transfer, professional development, joint research, innovation and institutional capacity building. Our goal is to ensure that participating staff return with new experiences, professional networks and collaborative opportunities that strengthen teaching, research productivity and the international visibility of the University" he added.

During the visit, the KIU representatives are engaging with their counterparts at OMU through academic presentations, institutional knowledge sharing and discussions on future collaboration. Dr. Malinga's participation provides opportunities to strengthen academic networks and explore joint research initiatives, while Mrs. Mahoro's engagement focuses on international partnerships, grants management and institutional capacity building.

The exchange also provides an opportunity to showcase KIU's academic programmes, research activities and institutional developments, while drawing lessons from the host university's experiences in teaching, research and international cooperation.

The KIU–OMU partnership, supported under the European Union's Erasmus+ Programme, continues to create opportunities for international academic exposure, staff development and institutional collaboration. KIU seeks to build on these engagements through expanded mobility, joint publications, collaborative research projects and postgraduate research opportunities.

The September visit represents another step in strengthening the relationship between the two institutions and advancing KIU's commitment to sustainable international partnerships that contribute to academic excellence, research productivity and institutional development.
