KIU Students Showcase Innovative Solutions to Community Challenges

KIU, Main Campus - On Friday, September 8th, 2026, students at Kampala International University (KIU) Main Campus showcased a range of innovative projects designed to address real-world community challenges during a Student Innovation Exhibition organised in collaboration with the Directorate of Research, Innovations, Consultancy and Extensions (DRICE) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).

The exhibition provided an opportunity for students to present technology-driven solutions aimed at improving education, business, transportation, and community services. It also encouraged participants to explore entrepreneurship opportunities while demonstrating the practical impact of innovation and research.

Innovative Projects on Display

MonetStudy: Is an artificial intelligence-driven educational platform that explores the concept of an "AI Native College." The platform seeks to transform traditional learning by integrating artificial intelligence directly into educational workflows, enhancing both teaching and learning experiences.

NibbleForms: Is a smart form-building platform that enables individuals, businesses, schools, and organisations to create and manage online forms with ease. The system supports registrations, surveys, applications, quotations, orders, and feedback collection while offering workflow automation, file uploads, payment integration, response management, and analytics.

The Kampala Traffic Detector: Is an intelligent traffic-monitoring solution that analyses road congestion and provides users with real-time traffic information. The system also recommends alternative routes to help motorists avoid delays and improve travel efficiency.

Mobiler: Is a digital platform that connects customers directly with mobile money agents, making financial services more accessible and convenient for users seeking mobile money transactions.

Shulematics: Is a comprehensive School Management System that digitises and streamlines school operations. The platform manages student records, attendance, academic performance, fees, classes, and staff information, helping institutions reduce paperwork, improve efficiency, and maintain accurate records.

Chazza App: Is a mobile application that helps users discover nearby businesses and purchase products or services from them. By connecting customers with local enterprises, the platform promotes local commerce and makes it easier for users to find and engage with businesses within their communities.

Expert Encouragement

Speaking at the event, Vincent Olema, Project Manager Taiwan Trade Centre (TAIRA) and the Guest Speaker, encouraged students to document, publish, and actively promote their innovations to increase visibility and maximise their societal impact.

He emphasised the role of innovation in solving real-world challenges and urged students to take advantage of available platforms and networks to showcase their solutions to wider audiences.

The exhibition highlighted KIU's commitment to nurturing creativity, innovation, and research-driven problem-solving among students. By providing a platform for young innovators to develop and present practical solutions, the university continues to contribute to sustainable community development while preparing students to become future entrepreneurs, innovators, and industry leaders.
