KIU, Main Campus— KIU basketball teams have kicked off the second round of the 2025 National Basketball League (NBL) season with strong performances, highlighted by the Titans securing their first win of the campaign on Wednesday night.

The Titans came into their matchup against Livingstone Basketball Club with renewed confidence following an encouraging display against Kampala Rockets three days earlier. Despite falling 76–50 to the Rockets on Sunday, the team showed glimpses of improvement, especially after storming to a 23–6 first-quarter lead.

On Wednesday, the Titans needed another fast start, and they delivered-dominating the first quarter 33–13 and entering halftime with a commanding 52–28 lead. Head coach Julius Lutwama’s squad continued their strong play in the third quarter, outscoring Livingstone 24–16.

Although Livingstone rallied to win the fourth quarter 23–10, it wasn’t enough to overturn KIU’s advantage as the Titans secured an 86–67 victory.

Team captain William Charles Saverino led the charge with a game-high 19 points, four rebounds and one assist. Teammates Akuk P. and Daniel Odonkyero added double-doubles—Akuk posted 17 points and 13 rebounds, while Odonkyero chipped in 14 points and 10 boards.

Recruit Hony Kwany also made an impact with 17 points and eight rebounds.

Meanwhile, KIU Rangers began their second-round campaign with a 48–31 win over Ndejje University on Saturday.

The Rangers welcomed back key players Fildauce Namulema, Reachel Nanyonga and Stella Nanyonga, who had missed the previous four games while competing in the East African Netball Championship.

The Rangers, currently sixth in the NBL Women’s Division standings, return to action Friday evening against the KCCA Leopards. Their next matchup will be on Wednesday, June 11, against Miracle Eaglets—the same day the Titans take on Sommet Basketball Club.
