KIU to Face Defending Champions Uganda Martyrs in UFL Group Stage

KIU,Main Campus — Kampala International University (KIU) has been drawn into a tough Group A alongside defending champions Uganda Martyrs University, Nkozi, in the 2025–26 Pepsi University Football League (UFL), set to kick off on Thursday, Sept. 25, 2025.

The official group stage draw was held on Thursday, Sept. 18, in Kampala.

Group A also features KIU’s Ggaba Road neighbours Kampala University, the University of Kisubi, Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST), and newcomers Mountains of the Moon University.

This year’s tournament will include 29 universities , the highest number in UFL history following the addition of five new institutions: King Ceasor University, Mountains of the Moon University, African Renewal University, Soroti University, and Lira University.

Bishop Stuart University and Kyambogo University also return to competition after serving suspensions.

The expanded tournament will now feature five groups (A–E), each consisting of six teams.

While the official opening fixture is yet to be confirmed, Uganda Martyrs University is expected to feature, potentially facing either KIU or Kampala University.

Head coach Geoffrey Akabwa will be aiming to guide KIU to a better performance this season after a disappointing campaign in 2024–25.
