The Kampala International University Western Campus on Monday, 28th April 2025, witnessed a handover of guild union leadership upon the end of the term of the 10th Guild Union. Lamto George Clifton, a third-year Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery student, was sworn in as the Guild president for KIU Western Campus for 2025-2026 after winning unopposed in an electoral college that attracted 44 members of parliament from various faculties, schools, and access programs, hostels, and individuals with disabilities. Having come through as the male member of parliament for the faculty of clinical medicine and dentistry, Clifton George Lamtoo, with the slogan "Eyes on the Prize," was successfully nominated unopposed to become the only presidential candidate in a rare move.
Speaking about his plans for the university students, Clifton, flanked by his vice, Shivan Namanya, expressed their strong will for collaborations, student-friendly policy, uniting schools/faculties to carry out projects, as well as bringing on board alumni for the common good under the slogan of mentorship, advocacy, empowerment, and collaboration.
The Guild Speakership race was won by Abbey Kirabo Kasajja, a male member of parliament from the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, after edging his opponent, Moses Nabimanya from the School of Law, with Brenda Asimwe as Deputy Speaker, in the election and swearing-in that marked the beginning of work for the 11th Guild Union Parliament. The Chief Guest, DVC KIU Western Campus Prof. Eric Mabonga, was represented by Dr. Ibrahim Babangida, the Assistant DVC Academics and Research, who admonished the leaders should always be guided by the Guild constitution in their operations.
“For the new Guild members, previously you were activists; now you are leaders. There is a difference; now you are supposed to be the bridge between management and the students.” He added.
The 2025-2026 leadership succeeds the 10th Guild Union led by Her Excellency Ms. Prudence Mahirwe, who handed over the office and expressed gratitude to the administration as well as the student leaders who worked tirelessly together to achieve results for the best interests of the students.
The event also saw Allan Okwir, the 10th Guild Minister of Information and Public Relations and MP School of Pharmacy, being awarded as the most exceptional performer in the 10th Guild union.
