KIU, Western Campus - In a bid to equip academic staff and students with industry-relevant skills, the Centre of Excellence for Entrepreneurship and Innovation (CoEEI) under the Directorate of Research, Innovation, Consultancy and Extension (DRICE) partnered with the Directorate of Information Communication Technology (ICT) to host a hands-on workshop on Computer Graphics, photo editing, and printing on Friday, November 7, 2025.

The interactive training was designed to empower participants with cutting-edge skills in graphic design, enabling them to stay ahead of the curve in the rapidly evolving digital landscape. Prof. Patrick Maduabuchi Aja, Director of RICE, KIU-WC, welcomed participants to the workshop, setting the stage for a day of learning and creativity.

Assoc. Prof. Bashir Olaniyi Sadiq, the Director of ICT, emphasized the importance of taking ownership of one's learning, urging participants to seize the opportunity to upskill themselves. Dr. Mohammed Dahiru Buhari, the Director CoEEI, echoed this sentiment, advising students to focus on acquiring valuable skills that will set them apart in the job market. "It's not just about the certificate, it's about the skills you gain that will make you stand out. Focus on acquiring skills that Artificial Intelligence (AI) cannot replicate," he said.

The Deputy Director of ICT, Chidi Uwabunkeonye, stressed the importance of consistent practice to master the skills gained, encouraging participants to keep practising and experimenting with the software. In the same vein, Sharif Kamiisi Musiige, the Guild Minister for Research and Innovation, urged students to participate in the upcoming innovation challenge and stay ahead of the curve. "Let's not let AI replace our professions. Let's take this seriously and use these skills to drive innovation and excellence," he said.

The training, facilitated by Ronnie Nayebare, Raymond Nkangi, and Innocent Tuhairwe, covered Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, with participants designing certificates, flyers, taking and editing photos. The practical sessions were engaging and interactive, allowing attendees to apply their new skills in real-time.

As the workshop came to a close, it was clear that the participants had gained valuable skills and insights that will undoubtedly propel them to drive innovation and excellence at KIU Western Campus.
