KIU, Western Campus – Kampala International University (KIU), Western Campus, provided its students with a platform to showcase their innovations, engage with entrepreneurs and industry players, and explore opportunities for collaboration during the Cielo Country Inn Projects Limited and Swisscontact Business-to-Business (B2B) Networking and Exhibition Event held on Friday, July 10th, 2026, at Rwakashoma Playgrounds along Kasese Road.

The one-day event, which ran from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., brought together students, entrepreneurs, business-support organisations, innovators, and other stakeholders to promote innovation, enterprise development, and professional networking.

The KIU delegation was led by the Directorate of Research, Innovation, Consultancy and Extension (DRICE), and the University’s participation reflected its commitment to fostering research, innovation, and entrepreneurship by exposing students to industry, innovation ecosystems, and potential development partners.

During the exhibition, KIU students presented a range of practical innovations developed to address real-world challenges. The exhibits included a wooden motorcycle constructed using locally sourced materials, organic fertiliser, a mobile marketplace application, and a warehouse robot designed to facilitate the movement of goods within warehouses.

The projects attracted considerable interest from visitors, entrepreneurs, and representatives of business-support organisations, who engaged the student innovators on the concepts behind their work and their potential real-world applications. These interactions provided valuable feedback, fostered knowledge exchange, and exposed the students to opportunities for collaboration, product development, and commercialisation.

The participating students were Denis Osiimemukama, Tendo Muwanguzi, Cosma Tumuhirwe, Daniel Onega Japyem, Najibuh Dembe Kawooya, John Mulumeti, Samuel Kwemboi, David Kitamirike, Godwin Malyo Thembo, Fiona Ampumuza, and Andrew Asifiwe Ebenezer.

They were accompanied by a staff delegation comprising Dr. Mohammed Dahiru Buhari, Director of the Centre of Excellence for Entrepreneurship and Innovation (CoEEI) under DRICE; Mr. Ogwal Emmanuel, Ms. Asaba Shabiluh, Mr. Namanya Osbert, and Mr. Masereka Umaru, who provided technical guidance and mentorship throughout the event.

The exhibition underscored KIUs’ commitment to nurturing innovation and entrepreneurship by providing students with opportunities to apply their knowledge beyond the classroom and engage directly with the wider business and innovation community.

Through DRICE, the University continues to cultivate a culture of creativity, research, and problem-solving while equipping students with the practical skills needed to develop solutions that contribute to sustainable community and economic development.
