KIU Women Athletes Shine with Podium Finishes at Inter-University Women’s Day Competition

Women athletes from Kampala International University delivered an impressive performance at the Inter-University Women’s Day Competition held at Ham Stadium, Kampala on Sunday, March 8, 2026, securing podium finishes in two of the four disciplines they competed in.
KIU’s strongest showing came in netball, where the team advanced to the final before settling for second place following a 16–9 defeat to Kampala University.
The university also registered another second-place finish in chess, highlighting the tactical strength and composure of KIU’s players.
Notably, two members of the chess team represented the university’s Western Campus.
In the other events, KIU finished fourth in basketball and fourth in woodball, completing a spirited outing by the university’s female athletes during the competition held to mark International Women’s Day.
On the same day, KIU’s Western Campus netball team began their 2026 campaign in the Western Uganda Netball League on a positive note. The team defeated Bishop Stuart University 39–33 at Rwampara Farm School.
The victory marked a strong start to the league season for the KIU side, adding to the university’s celebrations of women’s achievements in sport.
KIU Results at the Inter-University Women’s Day Competition:
- Chess – 2nd Place
- Netball – 2nd Place (Lost 16–9 to Kampala University in the final)
- Basketball – 4th Place
- Woodball – 4th Place
The performances underscored the determination and growing strength of KIU’s women athletes as they represented the university in competitions celebrating women’s participation and excellence in sport.
