#KIU31STGRAD: Abdulmajid Abdi's inspiring journey from aspiration to achievement as a medical doctor

When Abdulmajid Hassan Abdi began sketching human organs in the margins of his school notebooks back in Kenya, few could have predicted how far that spark of curiosity would carry him.

Years of intensive study sessions, sleepless emergency-room rotations, and steadfast resolve have now paid off, he has completed his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) and will stride across the stage at Kampala International University’s 31st Graduation Ceremony on 26th, July 2025 at the Western Campus in Ishaka.

With his white coat finally within reach, Abdulmajid’s story proves that dreams backed by relentless effort can chart a course from youthful fascination to lifesaving practice.

One of the most defining moments for Abdulmajid's university journey was when he successfully completed the clinical rotations.

"The hands-on experience I gained in various medical specialties was invaluable. It gave me the confidence to pursue my dreams and prepared me for real-world challenges," he said.

"Receiving a well-rounded education was crucial for me, and this university's reputation for producing excellent medical professionals drew me to the program," Abdulmajid said.

Abdulmajid's clinical skills have been shaped by his experiences in medical wards and hospitals across the country.

"Attending to patients and gaining valuable clinical experience has been a highlight of my journey," he said.

Beyond academics, Abdulmajid was involved in various extracurricular activities, including volunteering and community health outreach programs.

"These experiences not only enhanced my medical skills but also instilled in me a sense of social responsibility," he noted.

As the university celebrates its 25th anniversary, Abdulmajid congratulates the administration, staff, and alumni on this milestone.

"I appreciate the university's commitment to providing quality medical education, and I look forward to seeing its continued growth and success," he said.

Abdulmajid's future plans include pursuing a Master's degree in Medicine, specializing in either medical or surgical specialties.

"If given the opportunity and scholarship, I would be delighted to return to the university to further my education and training," he said.

“To continuing students, stay focused, work hard, and take advantage of the opportunities available to you. Make the most of your time at the university, and don't be afraid to seek help when needed."

With his degree in hand, Abdulmajid is ready to take on the challenges of the medical field and make a positive impact in his community.
