Mathias Twinomugisha, one of thousands of graduands set to graduate on Saturday, 26th July, 2025, with a Bachelor's degree in Clinical Medicine and Community Health, is thrilled to share his story as a graduand of Kampala International University (KIU).

Twinomugisha's journey at KIU began when he chose the university for its excellent reputation as the leading private university in Uganda, with the best teaching hospital in East Africa, and encouragement from his friend who was already studying at KIU.

During his journey at KIU, Twinomugisha met Dr. Emmanuel Mutuuza, who imparted a foundational ethical code of conduct that reshaped his perspective on medicine and professionalism, emphasizing the importance of dress code, respectful speech, and instilling a deep and genuine love for the profession. "This encounter fundamentally changed how I view my role and responsibilities, both inside and outside the classroom," he added.

Throughout his journey, Twinomugisha was deeply involved in several roles, including Class Representative, Health Minister, Team Manager of the Himers Football Team, and Church Leader at St. Camillus Catholic Chaplaincy. "These experiences allowed me to develop leadership, teamwork, and organizational skills crucial for my future in healthcare," he noted.

Some of Twinomugisha's fondest memories on campus are the intra-school football matches and the inter-faculties, especially cheering on his team, the Himers and the Allied team. "The energy on the field, the roar of the crowd, and the pure joy of a well-played game, win or lose, were unforgettable," he narrated.

In the course of his journey, Twinomugisha was faced with challenges, one of which was balancing intense academics with personal well-being. "I overcame this by implementing strict time management, leveraging peer study groups, and consciously prioritizing rest and self-care. This taught me resilience and the importance of a sustainable approach to demanding work," he said.

As KIU celebrates 25 years, Twinomugisha extends heartfelt gratitude and admiration to the administration, staff, and alumni for building and sustaining an institution that fosters critical thinking, resilience, and a deep sense of purpose.

To continuing students, he says: "Embrace every moment of this challenging yet rewarding journey. You are building resilience and knowledge with every late night and complex concept. Lean on your peers – your greatest support system. Seek out your mentors, learning from their wisdom and passion. Keep pushing with purpose and integrity. The finish line will arrive, and you will be immensely proud."
