#KIU32ndGrad: Awaiting her Graduation, Keinembabazi Yvonne Celebrates a Journey Defined by Impact and Determination

When Keinembabazi Yvonne walked through the gates of Kampala International University (KIU) in 2021 to pursue a Bachelor of Laws (LLB), she carried a powerful dream, to become a competent, compassionate, and transformative legal professional.

“I was inspired by KIU’s strong reputation for producing excellent lawyers. Its commitment to academic excellence made it the perfect place for me to pursue this dream,” Yvonne shares with a smile.

What began as a journey filled with uncertainty and anticipation soon evolved into one of the most defining experiences of her life. “Like any new student, the beginning wasn’t easy. But once you understand the system, follow the university’s guidelines, and stay focused, everything falls into place. KIU truly becomes a home,” she reflects.

Yvonne’s time at KIU was marked not only by academic achievement but also by her exceptional leadership journey. Rising through the ranks of student governance, she made history as the second female Guild President of KIU, a position she describes as both humbling and empowering.

“Becoming the second female Guild President of this mighty university is one of my greatest achievements. It gave me the platform to serve, lead, and grow in ways I never imagined,” she recounts.

Through her tenure, Yvonne developed critical skills in communication, problem-solving, and balancing academics with leadership responsibilities.

“Being Guild President helped me represent others with confidence and fairness qualities that are essential in the legal profession,” she explains.

Her leadership journey also deepened her appreciation for diversity and inclusivity within the university community. “As a student leader, I learned how to bring people together, mediate between different opinions, and make sure everyone felt heard and included,” Yvonne notes.

Beyond leadership, Yvonne treasures the friendships she built along the way. “The friends I made at KIU made my university life so much easier. From late-night discussions to shared meals and endless conversations, they were my biggest support system. Those moments will stay with me forever,” she recalls fondly.

She also acknowledges the financial support that made her academic journey smoother.

“I received a bursary, and it really reduced the burden on my parents. It allowed me to focus more on my studies and leadership responsibilities,” she adds with gratitude.

As KIU marks 25 years of academic excellence, innovation, and service, Yvonne feels a deep sense of pride.

“This milestone is not just a celebration of years , it’s a celebration of vision, resilience, and transformation. I’m grateful to be part of this great legacy,” she remarks.

Looking ahead, Yvonne plans to join the Law Development Centre (LDC) to complete her journey toward becoming an advocate. Her message to continuing students is simple but profound: “Focus. Follow the university’s guidelines, and most importantly, pray for God’s sufficient grace to sustain you,” she advises.

She concludes with heartfelt appreciation.

 “I want to thank the Chairman Board of Trustees, Al Hajji Dr. Hassan Basajjabalaba, and the entire KIU Management for giving me a safe and supportive environment to lead. Special thanks to the Campus Administrator and Mama Dean, the Dean of Students, for their unwavering support,” Yvonne says with sincerity.
