My journey at Kampala International University (KIU) was made possible by opportunity, determination and the support of people who believed in me. Receiving a 50% KIU bursary significantly reduced my tuition burden and brought me closer to my dream of earning a university degree.
I am particularly grateful to my grandmother, Joan Kategaya Betsimbire, whose encouragement and financial support played a significant role in making my education possible.
During my time at KIU, I served as President of the Social Workers Students Association, Vice President of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, Chief Whip and Speaker, which strengthened my leadership, communication and teamwork skills.
More to this, working with the KIU Marketing Department while studying gave me practical experience, and balancing work, academics and leadership taught me discipline, resilience and time management.
After my Bachelor of Social Work and Social Administration, I intend to pursue a Master’s degree and eventually a PhD, so I can contribute to social justice, community development and the wellbeing of vulnerable people.
To continuing students: seize every opportunity at KIU, seek practical experience, explore bursaries, and never give up because of financial challenges.
Circumstances may shape your beginning, but not your destination. Graduation is the beginning of a greater responsibility: using education to transform lives.
