By: Peace Nerie Akello – Postgraduate Diploma in project Planning and Management
As Kampala International University (KIU) prepares for its graduation ceremony on Saturday, 21st November 2026, Peace Nerie Akello, a graduand of Postgraduate Diploma in Project Planning and Management, reflects on a transformative academic journey.
With a background in Engineering, Akello pursued postgraduate studies to develop skills in planning, managing, and implementing impactful projects. She says KIU's postgraduate tuition waiver made further education accessible, while the programme provided an opportunity to broaden her perspective beyond technical engineering.
Reflecting on her experience, Akello describes her time at KIU as enlightening and rewarding.
“I found knowledgeable and supportive lecturers, a strong academic environment, and valuable lessons that strengthened my ability to think critically, work strategically, and manage resources effectively.”
She notes that the programme taught her that successful projects require more than technical expertise.
“Projects need vision, discipline, collaboration, and the ability to turn plans into results.”
Looking ahead, Nerie hopes to build a career combining engineering, project management, and sustainable development, contributing to projects that improve infrastructure, water access, and community livelihoods.
Her advice to continuing students is simple: “Be intentional about your journey, stay focused on your goals, develop practical skills, and embrace every opportunity to learn and grow.”
