#KIU34thGrad: I was inspired by a Radio Advert to Join KIU

By: Aisha Nakyeyune - Bachelor of Arts in International Relations and Diplomatic Studies

My journey to Kampala International University (KIU) began when I was still in secondary school. I used to listen to VOT FM, where a KIU advertisement would often play. The advert would say, “Kampala International University,” and then repeat it in our local language as “Kampala Omumisomo Yekikugu.” I loved the advert so much that I promised myself that one day I would study at that university. After completing secondary school, I also learned that KIU is one of the largest private universities in East Africa, which further motivated me to enrol for my bachelor's degree.

From childhood, I dreamed of either becoming a lawyer or pursuing international relations. At KIU, I pursued a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations and Diplomatic Studies and have since expanded my knowledge through reading extensively and learning about international events, culture, foreign policy, and economic development. Through classroom engagements, I have also gained valuable public speaking, communication, and interpersonal skills.

After graduation, I plan to explore opportunities related to international interactions and travel to different parts of the world to experience diverse cultures and perspectives.

My message to continuing students is simple: there is time for everything, and you are not in competition with anyone. Stay focused on your goals, trust your journey, and keep moving forward.
