#KIU34thGrad: Turning a Passion for Community Service into a Career

By: Namutebi Faridah – Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work and Social Administration

Pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work and Social Administration at Kampala International University (KIU) was driven by a strong desire to make a positive difference in my community.

My dream of helping others inspired me to pursue a career in social work, and KIU gave me the opportunity I needed to turn that dream into reality. The weekend study programme, which accommodated working students, made the decision even easier.

Throughout my academic journey (2023-2026), KIU played an important role in shaping my personal growth and outlook on life. My experience at the university broadened my understanding of the world and humanity, and nurtured in me a deeper sense of kindness, empathy and compassion towards others.

Today, as I prepare to graduate on Saturday, 21st November 2026, I am already putting my passion into practice through my work and making a difference in my community. I look forward to building on this experience by continuing to contribute to society, supporting those in need and creating positive change through my profession.

My message to continuing students is simple but powerful: never give up on your dreams. Start wherever you are, regardless of your circumstances, and stay committed to your aspirations, because it is never too late to pursue what you believe in.

As I prepare to graduate, I am proof of how education, determination and a passion for serving humanity can become powerful tools for community transformation.
