KIUPSA Opens Pharmacy Week with Sickle Cell Awareness and Health Outreach

KIU, Western Campus - On Monday, October 5th, 2026, the Kampala International University Pharmacy Students’ Association (KIUPSA) commenced Pharmacy Week 2026 with a series of activities centred on sickle cell awareness, health screening and community health education.

Held under the theme “Pharmacy Profession in the Current Era,” Day One featured a Sickle Cell Awareness Run, free sickle cell screening, and health education outreach to neighbouring schools.

The Sickle Cell Awareness Run brought together students and other participants in raising awareness about sickle cell disease and promoting the importance of health education. Participants set off from the KIU Western Campus Basketball Court before following a designated route around Ishaka.

The day also included free sickle cell screening, giving students and community members an opportunity to access screening services and gain greater awareness of sickle cell disease.

Extending the initiative beyond the university community, KIUPSA conducted health education sessions at Basajjabala Primary and Secondary Schools and St. Agnes Girls Secondary School, engaging learners on important health-related issues.

The activities reflected KIUPSA’s commitment to advancing health awareness and demonstrating the role of pharmacy students in promoting healthier communities.
