SEAS Staff Get-Together Fosters Teamwork and Excellence at KIU

KIU, Western Campus - Members of the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS) at Kampala International University, Western Campus (KIU-WC), gathered at Kyangabi Crater Resort in Rubirizi District on Friday, October 9th, 2026, for a staff get-together that coincided with Uganda’s 64th Independence Day. The occasion provided an opportunity for staff to strengthen professional relationships, promote teamwork and enjoy time together away from their usual academic responsibilities.

Representing the Deputy Vice Chancellor (DVC), Assoc. Prof. Eric Mabonga, the Assistant DVC for Academics and Research, Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar Babangida, commended SEAS for its strong teamwork and recognized it as one of the best-performing Schools at the Campus.

Dr. Babangida emphasized the importance of such gatherings in fostering unity and strengthening relationships among colleagues, describing the occasion as an opportunity for team bonding.

“The get-together is an important occasion for team bonding, giving staff an opportunity to interact, connect and strengthen their relationships beyond their usual professional responsibilities,” he said.

The event was also graced by members of the University’s Management, including the Director of the Directorate of Higher Degrees and Research (DHDR), Prof. Dominic Byarugaba; the Director of Research, Innovation, Consultancy and Extension (RICE), Prof. Patrick Aja Maduabuchi; the Campus Administrator, Miriam Nikwakunzire; and the Director of Finance, Maureen Nasasira.

Their presence added to the occasion, reflecting the spirit of togetherness and shared commitment within the University community.

Beyond the formal remarks, the gathering featured a range of recreational activities that allowed staff to relax, interact and enjoy one another’s company. Activities included football, card games and swimming, among others, creating an atmosphere of friendly competition and social engagement.

The get-together offered SEAS staff a welcome break from their daily academic and administrative responsibilities while reinforcing the relationships that support effective teamwork. By bringing colleagues together in an informal setting, the School underscored the importance of staff interaction, mutual appreciation and collaboration in maintaining a positive and productive working environment.

As SEAS continues to contribute to the University’s academic mission, the gathering served as a reminder that institutional excellence is strengthened not only by professional performance but also by the unity, relationships and collective commitment of the people who drive it.
