Kampala International University (KIU) on Monday, July 14th, 2025, hosted a delegation from Sichuan Vocational and Technical College (SCVTC), a renowned institution from China. The visit marked a significant step towards fostering international collaboration and enhancing educational opportunities for students and staff.

Led by President Huang Yuanxin, the SCVTC delegation comprised key stakeholders, including Prof. Zhai Lian, Director of the International Exchange and Cooperation Centre; Dr. Mark Gong Zhiwu, Director General of Africa at the China-Africa Vocational Education Alliance; and Samuel Omala, Administrative Officer at the Sunmaker Oil and Gas Training Institute (SOGTI).

The visitors were warmly received by KIU's leadership, including Prof. Regina Ejemot-Nwadiaro, Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Research, Innovation, Consultancy, and Extension; Gloria Mahoro, Manager at the Directorate of Grants and Partnerships; Assoc. Prof. Bernard Anthony Ojonugwa, Manager of Innovations at the Directorate of Research, Innovations; Dr. Michael Adewusi, Dean of the School of Mathematics and Computing; and Dr. Chukwuemeka Agwu, Associate Dean of the School of Mathematics and Computing.

During their visit, the delegation held a meeting to explore potential areas of collaboration between the two institutions. The discussions centered on student and staff exchange programs, as well as integrating education, especially vocational training, with industry, which is crucial for equipping students with practical skills and enhancing their employability.

SCVTC offers a range of programs that could benefit KIU students and staff, including Internet of Things Application Technology, Software Technology, Artificial Intelligence, Industrial Robot Technology, E-commerce, Chinese Language, Engineering, Computer Science & Technology.

"This visit marks the beginning of a beautiful partnership between our two institutions," said Prof. Regina Ejemot Nwadiaro. "We are excited about the prospects of student and staff exchange programs, as well as integrating vocational training with education."

President Huang Yuanxin expressed his enthusiasm for the potential collaboration, stating, "We believe that our partnership with KIU will not only enhance the academic experience for our students but also foster innovation and cultural exchange between our institutions."

Prof. Zhai Lian highlighted the benefits of the collaboration, saying, "With this partnership, our students will have the opportunity to receive dual certification from both KIU and SCVTC. This will give them a competitive edge in the job market, particularly in Chinese industries, where they can leverage their knowledge and skills to secure employment opportunities."

Gloria Mahoro highlighted the importance of partnerships in securing grants and funding opportunities. "We're looking forward to working closely with SCVTC to identify potential areas for collaboration and secure funding for joint projects," she said.

The proposed partnership aims to facilitate student and staff exchange programs, enabling students and faculty members from KIU to benefit from SCVTC's expertise and resources. Additionally, the integration of vocational training with education will equip students with the competencies required to excel in their chosen fields.

Dr. Michael Adewusi and Dr. Chukwuemeka Agwu from the School of Mathematics and Computing expressed interest in potential collaborations in research and academic programs. "We're excited about the possibility of joint research projects and academic programs that can benefit our students and faculty," said Dr. Adewusi.

The visit by SCVTC to KIU underscores the growing importance of international collaboration in higher education. As both institutions move forward, they are primed to create mutually beneficial partnerships that enhance the academic and professional development of their students and staff.

SCVTC, which has established partnerships with over 20 institutions around the world, hopes to collaborate with KIU to leverage each other's strengths, foster innovation, and contribute to the advancement of education and vocational training.
