Duncan Ondimu's Remarkable Journey at KIU

As Kampala International University (KIU) readies to celebrate a major milestone of 25 years of academic excellence, Duncan Ondimu, OGW, a distinguished law graduate who exemplifies the university's commitment to producing outstanding professionals shares his story.

Ondimu joined KIU in 2002 and graduated in November 2006. During his time at KIU, he fostered strong bonds with students from diverse backgrounds and countries, a practice that enabled him to broaden his mind. The interactions created strong bonds which exist to date.

The university's support extended beyond graduation, as he received a scholarship from the university to attend the Law Development Centre (LDC), graduating in March 2008.

Today, Ondimu serves as an Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions (ADPP) at the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), Republic of Kenya, attached to the Department of Economic, Organised and International Crimes (EO & IC), which includes the Counter-Terrorism Division. Some of the responsibilities he has handled at ODPP include Personal Assistant to the DPP, Head of Narok County ODPP, among others.

His main duties are the prosecution of suspects of terrorism, organised crime and anti-corruption. Some of the cases he has handled include Garissa University terrorist attack that took place in April 2015, ISIS doctor case (Abu Fidaa) that was linked to three other countries (Uganda, UK and South Africa), Westgate terrorist attack September 2013, and the ongoing Dusit D2 Hotel Complex January 2019, among several others.

Ondimu is a 2018 awardee of the Kenyan President's medal of recognition for his public service, Order of the Grand Warrior (OGW) 2018. Other awards include Law Society of Kenya: Public Sector Lawyer of the Year, 2018 -2019.

Ondimu was called to the Bar on the 23rd July, 2008. He is admitted to both the Bars in Kenya and Uganda. He joined the ODPP in December 2013 after what he regards as a short stint in private practice in Uganda.

As KIU celebrates its 25-year legacy, Duncan Ondimu's remarkable journey serves as a testament to the university's enduring commitment to nurturing talent and shaping global leaders. His achievements inspire current and future students.
