KIU, Western Campus - Kampala International University, through the Institute of Biomedical Research, has received a generous donation of advanced laboratory materials (Micropipettes and magnetic rack) to enhance its research capabilities in molecular biology and clinical diagnostics.
The donation was made by Ilemobayo Victor Fasogbon, a PhD student in the Department of Biochemistry, Faculty of Biomedical Sciences on Friday, September 6th, 2024.
Fasogbun who attended the prestigious Molecular Approaches to Clinical Microbiology in Africa 2024 Course on Wellcome Connecting Science, held at Stellenbosch University, South Africa from 31st August to 6th September was awarded some essential lab items during the course.
The items including Micropipettes and magnetic racks, were donated to the Institute of Biomedical Research to support ongoing research in infectious diseases such as tuberculosis, bacterial meningitis, and antimicrobial resistance.
The official handover of the equipment took place in the presence of university management, at the Western Campus. Present at the handover include Assoc. Prof. Eric Mabonga, Ag. DVC Western Campus, Dr. Abubakar Ibrahim Babangida, ADVC Academics Affairs and Research, Prof Emeka Anyawu, Dean, Faculty of Biomedical Science, Dr Patrick Ajah, Associate Dean Research, Faculty of Biomedical Science, Dr Ibrahim Garba Wawata, Head of Institute of Biomedical Research (IBR) Lab
The event signifies the university’s ongoing commitment to improving research infrastructure and fostering academic excellence in biomedical sciences.
In his remarks, Ilemobayo Victor Fasogbon stated:
"I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to donate these valuable lab materials to the Institute of Biomedical Research. This is a significant step toward advancing molecular research at our university, and I believe it will make a tangible impact in our fight against infectious diseases in Uganda"
Prof. Patrick M. Aja, Fasogbon’s Supervisor, expressed appreciation for Fasogbon's efforts, emphasizing how the items will greatly benefit the ongoing projects within the research institute. The university management also commended this initiative, recognizing it as a reflection of the student’s commitment to contributing to the development of research and innovation at Kampala International University.
