KIU, Western Campus - The College of Health Sciences at Kampala International University, on June 10, 2025, organized an inaugural workshop to prepare for the transition to an integrated, modular, and competence-based curriculum.

The purpose of the event was to plan and prepare adequately for the shift from the traditional curriculum to an integrated, modular, and competence-based curriculum, and to equip staff with the necessary knowledge and skills for the competence-based curriculum.

In the welcome address by Prof. Eric Mabonga, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, KIU Western Campus, he thanked the Chairman Board of Trustees (CBOT), Al Hajj Dr. Hassan Basajjabalaba, emphasizing the need for curriculum revision and staff preparation. In attendance were: Dr. Abubakar Ibrahim Babangida, the Assistant DVC Academics and Research; Prof. Martin Nduwimana, the Principal of the College of Health Sciences; Dr Mutebi Ojera Joe, the Director of Academic Affairs; Prof. Mohamed Nouh Mohamed Ahmed, the Deputy Principal of the College of Health Sciences. Also present were Deans, Associate Deans, Heads of Department (HoDs), Department Examination Coordinators (DECs), and staff from various faculties.

The significance of the training was that it enhances the quality of education and training, prepares students for the demands of the healthcare industry, and fosters collaboration and engagement among faculty and staff.

The workshop marks a significant step towards implementing a modern and effective curriculum that meets the needs of 21st-century healthcare professionals.
