It's inevitable for anyone to leave Kampala International University (KIU) without acknowledging its vibrant diffusion of cultures, which deeply fosters a sense of belonging, welcoming, and co-existence with different people.

Indifferent from others, Fadumo Abdirashid Abdullahi, a student who will be graduating with a Master’s degree in Project Planning and Management at the forthcoming KIU 31st graduation ceremony, credited part of his success to the lively environment of the campus.

“Some of my fondest memories include group study sessions, late-night discussions on project work, and celebrating milestones with my classmates. The friendly and multicultural environment at the campus made every day a memorable experience,” she said.

Pursuing a Master's in Project Planning and Management was an idea that was driven by Fadumo’s passion for organizing, implementing, and evaluating impactful projects, especially those that bring sustainable development to communities.

However, during her pursuit of the degree, she believes that she has gained more than knowledge and documents, but a professional narture.

“My time at KIU helped me grow both personally and professionally. I learned the importance of critical thinking, time management, teamwork, and effective communication skills that are essential in any career. It also taught me perseverance and the value of community support,” said Fadumo.

As the saying goes, “Work without play makes Johnny a dull boy,” Fadumo juggled studies, leadership roles, as well as leisure time.

“I was actively involved in extracurricular activities during my time at the university. I held a leadership position as the Secretary of the Project Pioneers Association. In this role, I was responsible for organizing meetings, maintaining records, and coordinating communication among members. It was a great opportunity to apply my organizational and communication skills while contributing to the success of the association’s initiatives. This experience also enhanced my leadership and teamwork abilities, which I believe are essential in both academic and professional realms,” she said.

Despite being challenged with school life and personal duties, Fadumo overcame the huddle by creating a structured schedule, seeking support from classmates, and staying focused on her long-term goals.

She implored students to remain focused and value the power of perseverance.

“My message to continuing students is to stay focused and never underestimate the power of perseverance. Make the most of your time at university, engage, ask questions, and keep learning. Your efforts now will shape your future,” she advised.

Additionally, she appreciated her lecturers, classmates, family, and the entire KIU community for their unwavering support throughout his journey at the institute.

“This achievement is not mine alone, it belongs to all of us who believed and supported one another. Thank you!” she concluded.
